My last night in Hanoi, my counterpart brought me to the Old Quarter. I read up some articles and history of the Old Quarter before I flew to Hanoi. Just a snippet of what I read from various sources.
"The Old Quarter in Hanoi has the original and street layout and architecture of old Hanoi. Each name of the streets in the Old Quarter begins with Hang which means merchandise and each street also specialises in one particular type of product or industry. The houses are generally narrow and they are called tube houses since the streets usually come with the shops at the front and the living areas at the back. Hanoi experienced heavy conflicts until it gained liberation in 1954. However, the Old Quarter in Hanoi endured all trouble and even survived the bombings in 1972."
Took some photos as I walked along the streets in the Old Quarter. Bought some some souvenirs for my colleagues as well. Luckily I got my counterpart to guide me around. Would have been lost, all the streets looked the same to me -.-''
Went to one of the local stall to try their local dish. I was surprised that their tables and chairs are so small xD A first experience for me to sit on a small chair and eat on a small table by the road side, hehe.
Chicken Pho. A dish that is almost similar to our Koay Teow Teng. Need to squeeze some lime juice in it.
Saint Joseph Cathedral (Vietnamese: Nhà thờ Lớn Hà Nội, Nhà thờ Chính tòa Thánh Giuse) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Hanoi, Vietnam. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hanoi. The church was built in 1886 in the neo-gothic style. -from Wikipedia-
After walking all night, we went for a drink at Sohot Cafe. Talked about work and some not work related topics. Didn't really stayed long at the cafe though. I was dead tired and wanted to go back to my hotel early to pack my luggage.
Was already past midnight after I packed my stuffs and showered. Went straight to bed and the next day, Goodbye Hanoi. Hope to visit you again in future, hopefully in a less tighter schedule :D
