Went for tom yam hunting last week at mainland. Was craving for some tom yam and SY suggested to go Raja Uda. Both of us were not sure where it is but SY managed to find out from her friend that the place is called Ju Heng Restaurant. With the aid of Google map and the power of our brains to memorize the map, we started our journey, blek. This was the time when I wish I have a GPS -.-''
We found the place quite easily. Drove passed it the first time though, but SY saw the restaurant and we just needed to make a U-turn. Parking is limited so we parked across the road from the restaurant. The place was packed with customers. We managed to get a table by sharing with a couple.
Went over to choose our ingredients for our tom yam. It's something like 'yong tau fu' style. Lot of varieties to choose from, fish balls, mushroom, fresh prawn, minced meat, deep fried fish meat and some other which I can't remember. I didn't see any price displayed, so after I took what I wanted I just passed my 'metal plates' to the girl there and told her my choice of soup and noodles.
Customers choosing their choices of ingredients.
We got our tom yam noodles in like around 15 minutes. Not as long as we expected or was told. I was told that I need to wait for at least an hour.
The tom yam soup is different from what I normally had on the island. The soup here looked more 'see through' and kinda bland. Tasted kinda bland too after tasting. It was sourish, but lack the spiciness. I don't like it =x I prefer my tom yam to be sour and also spicy. Both of us finished our noodles though were kinda disappointed. The noodles were RM10 for both so our guess were RM5 per bowl.
The next day, I got to know from a friend that stays at Mainland that I went to the wrong tom yam stall -.-'' She mentioned that the best Raja Uda tom yam was another stall and the one I went is hmmm... second best -.- Oh well, guess I'll just need to make another trip again. And hopefully that time, I'll be at the right place.
