Continuing from my previous post, we did made pancakes that day. My friend arrived at my place around 11.30am which was good as I was lack of sleep, blek. I didn't even heard the message she texted me and she actually had to call my phone 3 times before I finally heard it =x I can imagine myself looking like zombie when I went down to get her. I just cut my hair and I had a feeling it was messy spiky that time, ughh...
Anyway, I took a quick shower while she looked around the kitchen for a pan. And when I got out from shower, I noticed that she somehow managed to find one. I looked at the stuffs she brought. A carton of low fat milk, baking soda, sugar, salt, butter, all purpose flour, I didn't even know there is such a flour -.-''
We mixed everything inside a bowl. Once we were quite confident with the err... 'thickness' of the mixture, I heated the pan. That was when I realized that something seem to be missing. Eggs, did we put any eggs in there? I asked my friend about it, and she exclaimed 'Oh yahor! Forget to ask if you got eggs' -.-'' What the.... zzz...
I don't have eggs at home, so I went down to the mini market to get some. Luckily the mini market at my place has reopened, after being closed for a few months. I can now just drop by everytime I run out of instant noodles, blek. Got the eggs, cracked 2 in the mixture and we were back to estimating the 'thickness' of the mixture again =\
Once we got the mixture to how we wanted it to be, I re-heated the pan again. Melted a bit of butter, pour some of the mixture in, turned, not flipping and voila! one pancake done. Looked nice, but I asked my friend to try, haha. She tested it, and she said it was nice. Great, so I continue to make more till I finished the whole mixture. We didn't really mixed a lot, so we only made 4 pieces of pancakes. Are they called pieces, or is there another word for it? o.O
Anyway, I want to try it while they were still hot. I cut a small piece and tried it. It tasted kinda weird but I can't quite figure out what was weird with it. So I tried a bigger piece, and it was bitter. I asked my friend how come it tasted a bit bitter. She haven't eaten hers and she dare not eat it after I said it tasted bitter, zzz... I cut an even bigger piece and tried it. This time I went to the sink and puked. It was seriously bitter and very awful ~.~ My friend seeing my reaction decided to try a small piece to test if it was really that bad. She tasted the bitterness as well.
We tried to figure out what went wrong. We did put in the sugar, quite a lot actually, and even a bit of salt. We don't understand how the taste could get so bitter. We finally draw a conclusion that the flour expired, though we can't seem to find the expiry date on the package. Must had tore it when we opened it. But could flour expired? I am no expert on this, so I really don't know. And if it could expired, would it have cause the bitterness? Any experts out there can help clarify? Noob in distress here, haha.
Well, failed in my first attempt of making pancakes. Better luck next time I guess, if I am still going to try =x
