Been using my new iPod Shuffle for more than a month now. My first ever Apple product and I got it free from Maxis xD When we received it from Maxis at work, we tried not to get confuse and mix our iPods as we are all getting the same color, haha. Silver-ish grey, not complaining about the color, but just wish we get to choose which color we want. We were asked to check if everything are in the box, I don't think Apple would actually screw this up.
In the box:
* iPod shuffle
* Earphones with Remote
* iPod shuffle USB Cable (1.8 inches/45 mm)
* Quick Start guide
Everything checked, and off we went, everyone smiling gleefully just like a little child having his/her first toy =P
Honestly, I was never a fan of iPod Shuffle, other products yes, but not shuffle. So when I first saw there was only a ON-OFF button on the shuffle, I was kinda surprised. The last time I checked on the Shuffle was some years back, when it was more of a rectangular shape and there were buttons on it in the form of a circle. Guess I am outdated on this Shuffle technology *blushed*
I briefly flipped through the manual and only found out that the controls are no longer on the Shuffle but instead they are on the earphone. I tried this after work as I don't iTunes in my company's laptop nor can I install it. The functions works really well, but I don't really like the way of executing it. The main control lies in the center of the 'remote':-
Play/Pause: Single click
Go to next track: Double click
Go to previous track: Triple click
I prefer to do my things in the most simplest way possible. In the conventional method, usually we just need to click once on the button and we can choose to repeat, skip or return in just one click, of course there are more buttons to press on.
For the new shuffle, since everything is executed with just one button, different numbers of clicks need to be applied to execute a different tasks. Of course this would make the Shuffle looks much neater and more stylish in a way, but it also complicate things a little. The new process wouldn't be an issue for the younger generations, but the older generations, such as most of my new colleagues whom are not really technology savvy are having a hard time trying to cope the way of handling it. They miss all the buttons, hahaha...
I have no problem in using the new remote, but I am annoyed with the 'Go to previous track' function. By right, triple clicks should bring me back to the previous track, but everytime I triple clicked, it only repeat my current track, and I need to do another triple click for it to go to the previous track. So in total, I need to click 6 times for it to go back to the previous track, zzz... I totally ignore that function now =x
The white ear phones and the remote in the middle. I always like iPod's white ear phone xD Ok, besides the color, the sound from the ear phone is pretty clear, I was pretty amazed by the quality of the sound produced hehe...
Overall, I am quite satisfy with my new Shuffle, though I still complain that I can't drag and drop songs into my Shuffle every now and then, blek.
PS: Sorry for the poor photos quality, only took them with a normal camera phone T_T
