The Islander - Traders Hotel, Penang

Alright, finally this post is up. Wanted to put this up few days ago but seems like I procrastinate it a bit too long, blek. My cousins been asking me where is the post =.='' Anyway, I wanted to edit the pictures so the post wouldn't look too lengthy. Snapped quite a lot of pictures, *blush*

Anyway, this dinner is due to one of my team from Aussie came down to Penang. One of my colleague told me that, everytime one of them came down to Penang, and if the department budget allows, we would be treated to a team dinner. This is my first team dinner ever since I joined here. Initially, the plan was to have it at Rasa Sayang Resort but due to some problems, last minutes changes made it at Traders Hotel.

Well, since I never been to both I really don't mind much anyway, lolz. Though I was hoping more for Rasa Sayang Resort as I heard more reviews on it, but I was fine with the latter. The restaurant we went to is called The Islander, at Traders Hotel. When, my colleagues and me surfed through the net for The Islander, we thought the menu would be Ala Carte style. So, we were kinda a bit surprised when we saw the buffet table there, haha.

The decoration of the place is quite nice. Ambiance is not bad. It's nothing special, but it's nice and pleasant. The crews services were nice and friendly. The waitresses will even smiled at everytime you walked passed them. And they are very helpful too. You don't really find a lot of this kind of services these days. I would gives this place a thumbs up for their services and hospitalities.

There isn't much choice of food served on the buffet tables, or rather not one seem rather appealing to me. Instead of taking the food there, I made myself a bowl of Udon, blek. Then I dived in for the Salmon and Oysters. Both the Salmon and Oysters were fresh, so it were nice. Took more helping of the Salmon on my second round, *tam jiak* And the Tempura is nice. Didn't managed to snapped a picture on it though. By the time I went back the fried station, the basket full of Tempuras were already empty.

Cheesy Salmon and Chawamushi

Fried and Grill Station

Salmon, Oysters, Mussels, Prawns and dunno what's the white raw fish called

When one goes for a buffet meal, regardless it's lunch or dinner, one never misses the Dessert. The choices of dessert here is not that much either, but they were tempting all the same. They got the chocolate fountain here as well, but I am not really much of a fan for it. I went for the dessert which looked appealing to me. And, as the saying goes, looks can be deceiving, it applies the same to dessert. I ate one that was INDESCRIBABLE TERRIBLE!! Ughh... I finished it though, cause I don't think it's nice to left half eaten dessert on the plate. The taste still remained in my mouth even after I drank some water. Ate ice-cream to wash the taste off, blek. I couldn't find the ice-cream at first, then my manager told me they were kept inside the 'drawer'. They looked kinda cute inside the drawer-like freezer, can't resist not snapping a picture ^^

Ice-cream in the 'drawer' and ice-cream toppings

Coffee & Tea

All in all, the place is nice. The food is just average in my opinion. I am not sure about the price though, but I know it won't be as expensive as those in Park Royal Hotel or Rasa Sayang Resort. Another thing which I don't really like is, the restaurant is just beside the lobby lounge. There would be live band playing and they would be very loud. You can't hear among yourself talking. Other than that, I wouldn't mind recommend this place.
